Three individuals—two men and a woman—have been detained by the Judicial Police (PJ) on suspicion of committing crimes including kidnapping, assault, drug trafficking, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
In a statement released on Thursday, the PJ disclosed that the investigation relates to incidents dated back to August that occurred in Aguada de Baixo, Águeda municipality.
The victims, a 53-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man, were subjected to these criminal acts over the alleged non-payment of a debt linked to drug transactions.
The PJ revealed that the woman was taken to the city of Leiria, over 100 kilometers away, where she was held hostage in an attic for almost three days, being released only after fulfilling the demanded payment.
During operations conducted on Thursday, the PJ seized crucial evidence connecting the suspects to the crimes, including a firearm replica and narcotics.
The detainees, aged between 25 and 29, will appear before the Criminal Instruction Court of Aveiro for preliminary questioning and determination of preventive measures.
