
Three men were rescued on Sunday afternoon after getting into “difficulty in the water” at Praia da Rocha, located in the municipality of Portimão.
“From what could be determined, one of the victims was struggling in the water, leading the two friends accompanying him to attempt a rescue, which resulted in them also facing difficulties,” detailed the National Maritime Authority (AMN) in a statement.
The alert was received at 1:58 p.m. through bystanders, as mentioned in the same report.
The trio was rescued by the beach surveillance team of the Volunteer Firefighters and was assisted on site until the arrival of the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM). One of the men was subsequently transported to a hospital.
Present at the scene were members of the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Portimão, crew from the Ferragudo Lifeboat Station, as well as personnel from the Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Portimão and INEM.
The Local Command of the Maritime Police of Portimão took charge of the incident.
