A source from the Sub-Regional Command for Emergency and Civil Protection of Baixo Alentejo explained that the alert for the heavy goods vehicle accident was issued at 05:08 a.m.
The incident occurred at kilometer 692.200 of the IC1 highway, heading north-south, in the area of Santana da Serra, municipality of Ourique, district of Beja, the source added.
Mário Batista, the commander of the Ourique Voluntary Firefighters, also confirmed that the deceased was “the driver and sole occupant of the truck.”
A source from the Territorial Command of Beja of the GNR noted that due to the accident, traffic on that stretch of the IC1, in the north-south direction, is restricted and alternates through one lane.
The GNR source specified the age of the deceased, while the Civil Protection Sub-Regional Command confirmed that the body was transported to the forensic medicine services at Beja Hospital.
Twenty-two operatives were deployed to the accident site, supported by eight vehicles, including units from the firefighters, GNR, and the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), featuring the emergency medical and resuscitation vehicle (VMER) from Beja and the immediate life support ambulance (SIV) from Castro Verde.
