“I know three or four people I’m going to choose. I hope he leaves very soon because I think he’s terrible,” Trump said during a press conference in The Hague, where the NATO summit is taking place.

The term of the Fed chairman ends next May, and the local press reports that the current Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, may be one of the candidates to succeed Powell.

Trump criticized Powell for not reducing interest rates at a time when “there is no inflation,” but even after the criticism, the central bank continues to signal its cautious stance and its intention to continue monitoring economic progress and tariff effects.

“For now, we are waiting to learn more about the direction of the economy before considering any adjustments to our policy,” defended Fed Chairman Jerome Powell this Tuesday before the House Financial Services Committee.

Last week, the Fed left interest rates unchanged for the fourth time this year.

The U.S. central bank’s reference rates thus remain in the range of 4.25%-4.5%, as anticipated by both markets and analysts.
