Turkish Airlines buys 225 planes from Boeing (and goes down in history)

In a statement to the Istanbul Stock Exchange, Turkey’s national airline announced plans to purchase 75 B787-9 and B787-10 Dreamliner aircraft, along with concluding negotiations for acquiring 150 737-8/10 MAX units.

The announcement followed a meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington.

The company stated that delivery of the 75 Dreamliner planes, known for their fuel efficiency and intended for long-haul routes, will span from 2029 to 2034. Turkish Airlines is in discussions with Rolls-Royce and GE Aerospace regarding the supply of engines, spare parts, and maintenance services.

As for the 737 MAX order, Turkish Airlines mentioned that finalizing the deal depends on concluding negotiations with engine supplier CFM International.

With one of the largest airline networks globally, Turkish Airlines is expanding its fleet to enhance its international presence.

On Thursday, the U.S. President indicated that the United States might soon lift the suspension on the sale of advanced fighter jets to Turkey. Washington had removed Ankara from the F-35 program in 2019 during Trump’s first term, after Turkey acquired a Russian-made air defense system.
