Twenty-five dogs died in a fire at a dog hotel in Mangualde.

The canine hotel housed approximately 60 dogs, with many managing to escape. Some sustained injuries and are being attended to by veterinarians at the scene, as reported by the press office of the Mangualde City Council, which has dispatched resources to the site.

The deceased animals will be collected by the Official Intermunicipal Shelter for Dogs and Cats, located in Sátão, also in the Viseu district. Efforts are ongoing at the site to locate and capture several dogs that fled after the fire.

A representative from the Viseu Territorial Command of the GNR indicated that the fire likely originated from an electrical short circuit, with no suspicion of arson.

An official from the Viseu Dão Lafões Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command stated that the alert was raised around 3:30 PM. No human injuries were reported, but the kennel was “completely destroyed.”

Firefighters from Mangualde, alongside GNR personnel and municipal services from Mangualde, were involved in extinguishing the blaze.
