Twenty municipalities in six districts are at maximum risk of fire today.

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has indicated that various municipalities in the interior north and center, along with the Algarve, present a very high risk of rural fire.

According to the institute’s assessments, the risk of rural fires is expected to increase from today due to the forecasted rise in temperatures and will remain high at least until the weekend in some districts.

This risk, as determined by IPMA, has five levels ranging from reduced to maximum. Calculations are based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and precipitation over the past 24 hours.

Due to the warm weather, the IPMA has issued a yellow warning for the districts of Bragança, Viseu, Évora, Guarda, Faro, Vila Real, Setúbal, Beja, Castelo Branco, and Portalegre from 09:00 today until 18:00 on Wednesday.

A yellow warning is issued by IPMA for situations posing “a risk for certain activities dependent on weather conditions.”

The IPMA forecasts generally clear skies for today across the continent, with light to moderate northern quadrant winds, occasionally strong at higher altitudes in the north and center regions until mid-morning and along the coast north of Cabo Espichel from the afternoon, and an increase in maximum temperatures.

Minimum temperatures will vary between 13 degrees Celsius (in Leiria) and 22 (in Faro), and maximum temperatures between 25 (in Aveiro) and 39 (in Évora).
