Two men, aged 36 and 24, were apprehended by the Public Security Police (PSP) in the early hours of last Sunday, October 12, on suspicion of vehicle theft in the Bobadela area of Loures.
A statement released on Monday by the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP explained that the arrest occurred around 2:30 a.m. after officers, during their “criminal prevention patrol,” observed “suspicious movements” near a neighborhood associated with drug trafficking in the Sacavém area.
The officers checked the vehicle but found “nothing on record about it.” However, due to the “movements,” they decided to contact the vehicle’s owner, who confirmed that “the vehicle had just been stolen.”
With confirmation of the theft, the officers began to follow the vehicle, but the suspects realized they were being followed and “began to accelerate, attempting to flee over several kilometers.”
“Due to the officers’ persistence, the vehicle was intercepted in Bobadela and its occupants detained. The detainees are already known to the authorities for a range of crimes,” the PSP noted, adding that “in addition to the vehicle theft, the detained driver does not possess a driver’s license.”
It was further discovered that “one of the occupants stole a cash register from an establishment owned by his mother, using the stolen money to buy drugs.”
The detained individuals were taken to a police subunit and released after being notified to appear before a judicial authority.
