Two men were arrested by the Public Security Police (PSP) this Tuesday, November 11, in Alfama, following a Special Criminal Prevention Operation (OEPC) and in execution of five residential search warrants.
In a statement, the PSP explains that this operation “was planned following a conflict that occurred in June of this year, in which several Alfama residents were involved in physical assaults over the territorial dispute and selling points of grilled sardines and other food and drinks during the Saints’ Festival.”
One of the men involved “was bitten by the suspect, a resident of Alfama, losing part of his nose, which caused great alarm” in the Lisbon neighborhood, with “death threats exchanged, as well as threats involving firearms.”
“In this context, the PSP promoted the proposal for Special Criminal Prevention Operations with the Lisbon Public Prosecutor’s Office to recover the weapons and ensure public peace and tranquility in that community,” the statement reads.
The PSP also reports that “these searches took place in several streets of the Alfama district,” this Tuesday, at 7:00 a.m., and “allowed the identification of the two targeted men at their residences.” From one of them, “drugs and some ammunition” were seized.
From the other man, a firearm and ammunition were confiscated, along with clothing worth 1,381.70 euros, suspected of being stolen from various clothing stores, leading authorities “to believe that this suspect is also involved in the fencing of stolen goods.”
In total, a firearm, 55 bullets, 211.28 doses of hashish, 151.33 individual doses of marijuana, 78 individual doses of cocaine, 121.27 grams of cutting product, and several stolen clothing items were seized.
The suspect charged with drug trafficking will be presented for a judicial hearing before the Criminal Investigation Judge. The man found with the firearm will face trial in a Summary Procedure.
