In information released on its official website, the Public Prosecutor’s Office announced the arrest of two individuals following an investigation overseen by the Central Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DCIAP).
The statement indicated that since mid-2023, the accused have been using various forged identities to establish “front” companies and subsequently open bank accounts under these false identities, as well as under the names of the created companies.
The detainees aimed to circulate funds from illicit origins, such as fraudulent schemes or cybercrimes, specifically ‘CEO fraud,’ through multiple bank accounts both nationally and internationally, the Prosecutor’s Office clarified.
The accused are due to appear before the criminal instruction court in Porto for the imposition of preventive measures.
The investigation remains under judicial secrecy, further noted the Prosecutor’s Office.
