Two arrested in “disorder” in Amadora. One suspect fired through the window.

Two men, aged 23 and 46, were arrested following gunfire incidents in Amadora, confirmed by the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) on Thursday. The crimes in question involve attempted grievous bodily harm using a firearm and violent damage.

The authorities were alerted around 3:00 PM on Wednesday in the parish of Falagueira-Venda Nova, Amadora, when the PSP was “dispatched to a disorder involving several individuals.”

“Following reports of a disorder involving approximately 40 individuals of Roma ethnicity, where multiple gunshots were being fired, police units immediately proceeded to the location,” stated a note sent to newsrooms.

The officers had “information on the clothing and location of one of the suspects,” enabling them to intercept the individual upon arrival, although he did not possess the firearm in question.

Later, “in contact with several citizens on the public road,” the officers were able to locate the “residence where the second suspect was and where shots were being fired from the window.”

“With the lives and physical integrity of several citizens at risk, the Quick Response Team of the Amadora Division entered the residence in question, successfully intercepting the suspect inside,” explained the PSP. The firearm used, a 12-gauge long gun, was seized.

Six individuals were injured in the gunfire, with three requiring hospital treatment, but “none are in serious condition.”

The police explained that the first individual was subsequently arrested “after sufficient evidence was gathered to justify his detention,” while the second was caught in the act.

The detained individuals were taken to the detention facilities of the Lisbon Metropolitan Command to await judicial questioning at the Amadora Court and potential preventive measures.

The note emphasized that “preventing and investigating this type of crime is a priority in police intervention due to its severity, reprehensibility, and social alarm, with such arrests being crucial for deterrence and enhancing public safety.”

On Wednesday, the Amadora Volunteer Firefighters confirmed to Notícias ao Minuto that a 15-year-old girl was injured in the shooting.

The 15-year-old victim arrived at the Amadora Fire Department around 3:30 PM, transported by family members. She had minor pellet wounds on her abdomen, back, and head, prompting the firefighters to transfer her to Hospital Fernando Fonseca, also known as Amadora-Sintra.

However, Amadora Firefighters’ Commander Mário Conde explained to Notícias ao Minuto that the fire brigade did not attend the shooting scene. “The PSP usually does not allow our involvement in such cases,” he noted.
