Two arrested in Lisbon for driving intoxicated. One with a BAC of 2.85 g/l.

The Public Security Police (PSP) reported the arrest of two men, aged 31 and 47, on August 2 and 3, under suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol in Lisbon.

The Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP disclosed that the first arrest took place on August 2 at 9:54 PM in the parish of Penha de França.

During a routine check, officers observed that the 47-year-old man was driving under the influence, with a blood alcohol level of 2.85 g/l, as verified by certified equipment.

The second arrest occurred the following day, August 3, at 3:43 AM in the parish of Areeiro, also during a routine check.

The 31-year-old man, operating a light vehicle, was found to have a blood alcohol level of 1.89 g/l, according to certified equipment.

Both individuals were officially charged, submitted statements of identity and residence, and were notified to appear before the Judicial Authority for the application of the respective coercive measures.

‘Safe Summer’ Operation Underway

Since June 15 and until September 15, the operation ‘Police Always Present – Safe Summer 2025’ is in effect across the entire national territory.

Halfway through the operation, the PSP executed 3,375 arrests nationally, including 1,325 for traffic-related crimes, notably 676 for driving under the influence and 649 for lacking legal driving qualifications.

Additionally, 290 individuals were arrested for drug trafficking, with 205,597 individual doses seized, alongside 203 arrests for property-related crimes such as thefts, robberies, and frauds.

Concerning road safety, the PSP inspected 89,094 vehicles and recorded 27,226 infraction reports, with 5,270 for speeding violations.

Regarding road accidents, the PSP reported 7,001 incidents, resulting in 2,492 injuries (103 serious and 2,389 minor) and, regrettably, 13 fatalities.

Throughout the operation, the PSP offers safety advice on their website and social media, including road safety, theft prevention, residence protection, self-protection measures, child safety, among others.
