Two dead and 28 seriously injured in 6 days of GNR Easter Operation

Two people lost their lives and 28 others sustained serious injuries following road accidents occurring between midnight on April 11 and 11:59 p.m. on April 16, as per the provisional data from the Easter Operation 2025 conducted by the National Republican Guard (GNR).

Additionally, 389 individuals suffered minor injuries, with a total of 1,314 incidents reported, according to an official statement from the authorities.

The GNR conducted inspections on 41,675 drivers, resulting in the detention of 238 individuals for driving with a blood alcohol level equal to or exceeding 1.2 g/l. Furthermore, 144 people were detained for operating vehicles without a valid driving license.

The authorities also noted 7,850 traffic infractions, including 1,872 cases of speeding, 209 cases of failure to use or incorrect use of seat belts and/or child restraint systems (SRC), 250 instances of improper mobile phone use while driving, 1,084 cases of lacking mandatory periodic vehicle inspections, and 348 cases of not having obligatory civil liability insurance.

GNR reiterated “its commitment to ensure public safety, especially during a period where family gatherings and traditions hold heightened importance,” while emphasizing the shared responsibility “to ensure that these Easter festivities are celebrated safely and without tragic incidents.”
