Two individuals aboard a French-flagged sailboat were assisted on Saturday as the vessel was adrift due to a lack of propulsion approximately five kilometers south of Azarujinha beach, in the municipality of Cascais.
In a statement, the National Maritime Authority (AMN) reported that at around 08:30 a.m., they received an alert indicating that a sailboat had “a cable wrapped around the propeller.” This prompted the deployment of crew from the Cascais Lifeboat Station and members of the Local Command of the Cascais Maritime Police.
Upon reaching the vessel, it was confirmed that the two individuals, both of French nationality, were in good physical condition and did not require medical assistance.
Consequently, escorting of the sailboat to the Marina of Cascais commenced, enhancing safety for both the crew and navigation.
The owner was notified that departure would only be permitted following an inspection to ensure seaworthiness.
