Two gynecology and obstetrics emergencies closed on Saturday. And Sunday?

Notice has been given that on Saturday, emergency services for this specialty will be closed at the hospitals in Setúbal and Caldas da Rainha, as per the schedules reviewed at 3:15 PM today.

Furthermore, on that day, the pediatric emergency at Faro Hospital will also be shut.

The situation worsens on Sunday, with the gynecology and obstetrics emergencies closing in hospitals located in Setúbal, Caldas da Rainha, Vila Franca de Xira, and Barreiro.

The gynecology and obstetrics emergency departments at the hospitals in Santarém, São Francisco Xavier (Lisbon), Aveiro, and Leiria will be operating under constraints during the weekend, attending only to cases referred by CODU/INEM. The emergencies at Vila Franca de Xira Hospital (Lisbon) will be referenced only on Saturday.

Pediatric emergency services at the hospitals in Vila Franca de Xira and Beatriz Ângelo, in Loures, will also experience constraints over the next two days, attending only to cases referred by INEM.

The schedules available on the SNS Portal indicate that on Saturday, 128 emergency services will be operational nationwide, along with 33 gynecology and obstetrics units functioning under a pilot project that requires patients to call the SNS 24 Line prior to visiting the hospital.

On Sunday, 127 emergency services will be open nationwide, with 32 gynecology and obstetrics units in operation.

The limitations in emergency services are primarily due to a shortage of specialist doctors ensuring the schedules.

Health authorities advise the public to contact the SNS 24 Line (808 24 24 24) for appropriate guidance before heading to an emergency department.
