Two hospitalized after rip current at an unsupervised beach in Vila do Conde

Three individuals were rescued from the water on Sunday morning after encountering difficulties at the Parque de Campismo Árvore beach in Vila do Conde, located in the Porto district.

The National Maritime Authority (AMN) stated that two women and a man were caught by a rip current, commonly referred to as an undertow. The beach is not monitored by lifeguards.

Following the incident, the victims were assisted on the beach by lifeguards from adjacent beaches and by members of the ‘Seawatch’ project.

“Two of the victims were later transported to a hospital by the Vila do Conde Volunteer Firefighters,” the statement detailed.

The alarm was raised at 11:50 AM by a lifeguard on duty at the campsite pool.

Responding immediately were elements from the Maritime Police’s local command in Vila do Conde and operatives from the Vila do Conde Volunteer Firefighters.
