Two men aged 21 and 28 were arrested by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) in Montijo on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a prohibited weapon. The incident occurred on October 10.
In a statement released to newsrooms on Wednesday, PJ explained that the events unfolded when the suspects traveled to the residence where the 51-year-old male victim was located. Their “objective” was to “end the victim’s life,” armed with a pistol and a shotgun for this purpose.
Inside the residence, one of the suspects kicked the victim, who attempted to escape. Afterwards, the suspects fired several shots but failed to hit the victim, fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
The statement highlighted that “during the proceedings conducted by the Setúbal Criminal Investigation Department of PJ, significant evidence was seized that corroborates the suspects’ involvement in the crimes.”
PJ further revealed a “history of ongoing conflict between the families of the victim and the suspects.”
The arrest was made following a warrant issued by a judicial authority. The men, who have no criminal records, will appear before a judge for a preliminary hearing to determine any preventive measures.
