Two men rescued in the Gerês mountains in an operation that lasted 4 hours

The commander of the Salto Fire Brigade, Hernâni Carvalho, announced today that an alert was received for the rescue of two missing individuals in the Cabril area of the Peneda-Gerês National Park (PNPG) at 7 PM on Tuesday.

The two men, of French nationality, were reportedly following a trail when they became disoriented and called for assistance. According to Carvalho, the night and the terrain’s orography posed significant challenges for the operation, which required a seven-kilometer trek through the mountains to recover them.

Carvalho noted that the operation lasted four hours and involved firefighters and military personnel from the GNR’s Emergency Protection and Relief Unit (UEPS) and the Montalegre territorial station.

The Salto Fire Brigade, based in Montalegre in the district of Vila Real, dispatched a rescue team, an off-road ambulance, and a team equipped with unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) to the scene.
