Two Portuguese climbers lost their lives on Monday following a fall in the Picos de Europa mountain range in Spain.
The tragic incident occurred around noon in the Espolón de los Franceses area, situated in the autonomous community of Cantabria in northern Spain.
The climbers reportedly fell “from a great height” while scaling a section known as Chalet Real, part of the highest mountain in the range, according to Spanish media.
The alert was raised via a smartwatch and a cellphone, and a witness to the fall also reported the incident.
