The two inmates, of Portuguese nationality, aged 37 and 44, have been sentenced for drug trafficking and robbery to terms of 5 years and 8 months and 4 years and 9 months, respectively, as highlighted in an official statement.
The escape took place at 6:20 PM today, and the Directorate-General for Reintegration and Prison Services (DGRSP) has informed police forces to capture the escapees.
“An internal investigation will be conducted by the Audit and Inspection Service, coordinated by a prosecutor from the Public Ministry, to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement further emphasized.
The news of the two inmates’ escape was initially reported by Correio da Manhã, which indicated that the incident occurred “in the same area of the prison where a man intruded and threw mobile phones into the facility.”

The two men escaped from Alcoentre Prison at 6:30 PM on this Monday. One of the watchtowers was reportedly inactive in that area, reasons for which are yet to be clarified.
