As vacation season ends for many citizens, the Public Security Police conducted a monitoring operation on the Ponte 25 de Abril from 17:00 to 21:00 today, resulting in the arrest of one individual for drunk driving and two for driving without a license.
Two vehicles were seized, and 39 infractions were issued, 12 of which were due to the lack of mandatory periodic inspection.
Regarding the infractions, six were due to missing documents, six for the absence of child safety restraints, four for vehicle modifications, and the remaining for lack of insurance, using a mobile phone while driving, not wearing a seatbelt, expired driving licenses, excess passengers, and excessive alcohol consumption.
In statements made to Lusa in the early evening, the spokesperson for the Public Security Police, Subintendent Sérgio Soares, said the increased monitoring on the Ponte 25 de Abril aimed to “enhance road safety,” especially considering the “high flow of vehicles due to the return of national tourists.”
