Two young men, aged 23 and 24, were arrested early Tuesday morning in Santo Tirso, in the Porto district, on suspicion of illegal immigration, the Public Security Police (PSP) disclosed.
In a statement released to the press on Wednesday, the authority reported that the arrest took place at 2:40 AM on Tuesday on Rua Bombeiros Voluntários.
The young men had been in Portugal “for a year” and had “entered the national territory via the land border with Spain.”
According to the PSP, they had “already been notified to voluntarily leave the national territory, but they never complied with the decision.”
The detainees will be presented to the competent judicial authority.
