Two young individuals were rescued from Alteirinhos Beach in the municipality of Odemira, Beja district, on the night of Thursday, July 3.
The crew members of the Sines Lifeboat Station rescued “two youths who were isolated at the base of a cliff with the rising tide, unable to return to land”.
An alert for this situation was issued at 20:25, reporting that “two people were isolated at the base of a cliff.”
“Upon arrival at the location, the crew of the Lifeboat Station found that the victims, two young individuals aged 19 and 20, were on a cliff, in good physical condition without needing medical assistance. They were rescued and transported to the Barcas port,” in Zambujeira do Mar, where elements of the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Sines and the Odemira Volunteer Firefighters were deployed.
Yesterday, when Notícias ao Minuto reported the information, it was noted that the rising tide was the main issue. According to the Alentejo Coastal Sub-regional Command of Emergency and Civil Protection, the operatives were unable to reach the youths by land or sea, prompting a wait for the tide to rise.
Immediately monitoring the situation, authorities reported that the victims were “conscious,” despite being “trapped between the cliff and the water.”
