The General Secretary of UGT stated this morning that he is “available to sit at the table to negotiate [with the Government] starting tomorrow.”
“Negotiating means we can reach a consensus on the various matters we have on the table,” he emphasized, reminding that “if the government wants to negotiate, then we have to come closer to positions to reach a good outcome.”
Speaking to SIC Notícias, Mário Mourão also expressed that he believes this strike “will have more impact” than the one that occurred 12 years ago and did not rule out the possibility of a “new general strike” being organized if the union’s unit does not reach an agreement with the Government.
“A strike can never be excluded when we are negotiating, but it is not currently planned or considered. The decision will always be up to UGT’s unions, so if things do not go well, we will naturally listen to our unions and UGT’s bodies to know the path to follow.”
