Ukraine Montenegro praises the USA and says there is “a lot of work ahead”

Luís Montenegro participated today via videoconference in the “Coalition of the Willing” meeting, which convenes several allies of Ukraine.

On the social network X, the Prime Minister stated that Portugal reaffirmed its full support for Ukraine and its determination “to contribute to a just, stable, and lasting peace.”

“The participation of the U.S. was very relevant. Ongoing negotiations should continue with the involvement of everyone, including Europe. Russia now needs to show it is also willing to end this war. There is still much work ahead,” wrote the Portuguese Prime Minister.

This meeting took place on a day when U.S. media reported that the Ukrainian side allegedly accepted a peace agreement for the conflict.

“The Ukrainians agreed to the peace agreement,” with only “some small details to resolve,” stated an unidentified U.S. official, as cited by CBS.

An American delegation led by Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll is in Abu Dhabi negotiating with a Russian delegation the peace agreement for Ukraine.

The Abu Dhabi meeting followed a weekend of negotiations in Geneva over the 28-point plan presented by U.S. President Donald Trump, involving Ukrainians, Americans, and Europeans.

Donald Trump had given a deadline until Thursday (November 27) to Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky to respond to his 28-point peace plan, which led to urgent contacts among key European, Kiev, and Washington leaders.

The 28-point plan was subsequently reduced, and Trump appeared satisfied with the negotiation outcomes with Europeans and Ukrainians, declaring on his social network Truth Social that “something good may happen.”

Kiev now hopes “to organize Zelensky’s visit to the United States as soon as possible, in November, to finalize the remaining steps and reach an agreement with President Trump,” according to Ukraine’s National Security Council Secretary Rustem Umerov.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov commented today that Moscow was waiting for the United States to present the new version of its proposal.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Ukraine has received financial and military aid from Western allies.

Ukraine’s allies have also imposed sanctions on key sectors of the Russian economy to reduce Moscow’s ability to finance the war effort in Ukraine.

The Russian military offensive in Ukrainian territory has plunged Europe into what is considered the most severe security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).
