The Ukrainian singer Jamala, renowned for winning the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest with the song ‘1944’, expressed her admiration on Saturday for the music by the Portuguese group NAPA, who are representing Portugal at the contest with their song ‘Deslocado’.
As the grand final approached this Saturday, the Ukrainian band Ziferblat, who are representing Ukraine in the current edition, posted a photograph with NAPA on social media. Among the comments, Jamala’s remark stood out.
“I also love this song,” she wrote.
Ziferblat had previously expressed their support for ‘Deslocado’, soon after NAPA won the Festival da Canção, securing their place as Portugal’s representatives in Eurovision.
Vlentyn Leshchynskyi, the guitarist of the Ukrainian band, shared a video of himself singing and playing the NAPA song. “Portugal never disappoints with its entries in Eurovision. It’s so cool that we get to share the same semifinal,” he stated, referencing the fact that both countries are participating in the first semifinal.
Ziferblat’s appreciation for Portuguese music goes beyond ‘Deslocado’. Last month, the Ukrainian artists released their rendition of the song ‘Amar Pelos Dois’ by Salvador Sobral, which won the contest held in Kyiv in 2017.
It should be noted that the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest is set to take place in Basel, Switzerland, following the victory of Nemo with ‘The Code’ in last year’s edition.
