
The figure for the previous seven days was revised upward, increasing by about a thousand from the previously announced amount to 246,000, announced the Department of Labor today.
The four-week average, a more reliable indicator of the U.S. labor market performance, fell to 245,000, “a decrease of 750 from the revised average of the previous week,” the department noted.
In the previous week, the four-week average had reached the highest value since the period ended on August 19, 2023.
For the week ending June 14, for which the most recent data is available, 1,974,000 individuals were receiving unemployment benefits in the United States, representing an increase of 37,000 from the previous week and the highest number since November 6, 2021.
The four-week average rose by 16,750 people to 1,941,000 beneficiaries, also the highest value since November 2021 (2,004,250), added the government department.
