
The figure for the preceding seven days has been revised upwards, increasing by about 2,000 to 250,000 from previous reports.
The four-week average, a more reliable indicator of the performance of the U.S. labor market, rose to 245,500, “an increase of 4,750 from the revised average of the previous week,” it noted.
With this increase, the four-week average reached its highest level since the period ending August 19, 2023.
For the week ending June 7, the latest available data shows 1,945,000 people were receiving unemployment benefits in the United States, a decrease of 6,000 from the previous week.
The four-week average rose by 13,000 people to 1,926,000 beneficiaries, also marking the highest level since November 2021 (2,004,250), according to the government department.
