In comparison to the same period last year, there was an increase of 9,578 beneficiaries, marking a 4.9% rise, whereas a sequential decrease of 3.2% corresponded to a decline of 6,832 beneficiaries, as detailed by the summary from the Strategy and Planning Office of the Ministry of Labor, Solidarity, and Social Security.
According to Social Security data, the sequential decline in the number of unemployment benefit recipients recorded in March interrupted a cycle of four consecutive monthly increases. However, the total has remained above the threshold of 200,000 beneficiaries since January, reaching the highest level since January 2022: 211,769 beneficiaries in February, compared to 225,410 in the first month of 2022.
Regarding unemployment benefits, the number of beneficiaries totaled 163,371 in March, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 6.6% (an additional 10,163 beneficiaries) but a sequential decrease of 2.1% (3,465 fewer beneficiaries).
The Strategy and Planning Office reported that the average monthly value of unemployment benefits in March was 689.72 euros, representing a positive annual variation of 7.7%.
The number of initial social unemployment benefit recipients dropped by 3.6% compared to March 2024 (402 fewer subsidies processed) and fell by 8.0% from February (an increase of 953 beneficiaries), totaling 10,892 recipients.
Meanwhile, the subsequent social unemployment benefit covered 21,672 beneficiaries in March, which corresponds to a year-on-year decrease of 2.4% (525 fewer beneficiaries), but marked a 0.2% increase over the previous month (52 more beneficiaries).
As has been the trend, unemployment benefits were predominantly requested by women, accounting for 114,616 beneficiaries (55.9%) compared to 90,321 male beneficiaries (44.1%).
