
Unemployment rates in December decreased to 6.2% in the eurozone and 5.9% in the European Union (EU) in July, as revealed by Eurostat data today.
The European statistics service reported that the 6.2% rate in the euro area compares with 6.4% year-on-year and 6.3% in June.
In the EU, unemployment fell to 5.9%, lower than the 6.0% recorded both in July 2024 and on a monthly variation basis.
Eurostat estimates that 13.025 million people in the EU, of which 10.805 million are in the eurozone, were unemployed in July 2025.
Among the member states, Spain recorded the highest unemployment rate in July at 10.4%, followed by Finland at 9.5% and Sweden at 8.7%.
The lowest rates were observed in Malta at 2.6%, the Czech Republic at 2.8%, and Slovenia at 2.9%.
Portugal registered a 5.8% unemployment rate in July.
