Unemployment in Brazil drops to 5.6%, the lowest level since 2012.

The latest data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) indicates that Latin America’s largest economy experienced a decrease of 0.2 percentage points compared to the first quarter of this year.

The number of unemployed individuals stands at six million, while the number of employed persons has reached 102 million, a 1.4% increase compared to 2024.

Despite the decline in unemployment, the informal economy still accounts for 37.8% of the workforce, approximately the same as in the previous quarter, but down one percentage point compared to the third quarter of 2024.

Brazil’s economy grew by 3.4% in 2024, and the government forecasts that the growth rate will slow to around 2.3% this year, due in part to high interest rates and an adverse international context.
