
In the third quarter of 2025, the employed population (5,332.1 thousand people) increased by 1.6% (83.8 thousand) compared to the previous quarter and 3.7% (191.2 thousand) relative to the same quarter in 2024, according to a report released by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
The proportion of the employed population working remotely, using information and communication technologies to work from home, was 19.4% (1,036.4 thousand people). This is a decrease of 1.5 percentage points (p.p.) from the second quarter of 2025 and an increase of 0.2 p.p. from the third quarter of 2024.
The unemployed population, estimated at 326.6 thousand people, decreased by 0.9% (2.9 thousand) compared to the previous quarter and by 2.4% (8.1 thousand) year-on-year.
Labor underutilization affected 573.9 thousand people, a figure nearly identical to the previous quarter but 2.0% (11.5 thousand) lower than the same period last year. The labor underutilization rate, estimated at 9.9%, decreased by 0.2 p.p. from the previous quarter and by 0.5 p.p. year-on-year.
The inactive population aged 16 and over (3,703.6 thousand) decreased by 1.3% (49.4 thousand) compared to the previous quarter and by 1.1% (39.5 thousand) year-on-year.
