The latest data reveals increasing challenges in securing employment in South Africa as job vacancies continue to decline.
A quarterly labor force survey conducted by Stats SA, the country’s governmental statistics department, indicates that the number of employed individuals decreased by 291,000 between the fourth quarter of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025.
Consequently, unemployment has risen by 237,000 people, bringing the official total of unemployed individuals to 8.2 million.
Local media reports suggest that fewer people are actively seeking employment, discouraged by the prevailing economic conditions.
