More than three million people participated in the general strike on Thursday, December 11, according to estimates released by the Secretary-General of the CGTP, shortly after the government downplayed the participation.
“The general strike taking place today is one of the largest ever, if not the largest,” stated Tiago Oliveira during a press conference evaluating the strike, where he revealed participation exceeded three million workers.
The union leader emphasized this displays an “unequivocal force in the demand for higher wages and more rights.”
“Today we have a very, very, very large strike,” he concluded.
