The union representing retail workers has accused Lidl of enticing employees to replace striking workers during a planned work stoppage this Saturday, an allegation the supermarket chain has denied, asserting its respect for the right to strike.
“Lidl is enticing workers to perform supplemental work (‘extra hours’) on November 8, during the distribution sector strike, in order to replace striking workers,” stated the CESP – Union of Commerce, Offices and Services Workers of Portugal, in a communiqué today.
The union further claimed that Lidl is calling employees on leave to undertake additional work.
CESP plans to file a criminal complaint and also involve the ACT — Authority for Working Conditions.
When questioned, Lidl affirmed its “full respect for the right to strike,” emphasizing adherence to labor laws.
The company refuted “any allegations of illegal replacement of striking workers.”
This Saturday, CGTP is organizing a national march in Lisbon against the labor package. CESP has issued a strike warning for retail, office, and service sector workers.
