Union of guards points to 100% strike adherence in Alcoentre

The president of the SNCGP, Frederico Morais, stated that “the strike is proceeding normally,” with minimum services determined by the arbitration board, aiming to demand the payment of overtime and the standardization of work schedules.

“The strike is expected to reach 100% throughout the week,” Frederico Morais added, noting that 41 guards are working today at the Alcoentre prison divided into four shifts, meaning there are about ten workers per shift.

According to the arbitration board’s decision, in addition to weekly visits and the delivery of clothing bags to prisoners, the minimum services of this strike also include the “weekly canteen,” the right to purchase food, and participation in educational and training activities.

Excluded from the minimum services is the grape harvest work carried out at this prison, responsible for producing commercially sold wines recognized with awards. Furthermore, Frederico Morais explained that during the strike, which started at midnight today, the prison guards will not perform the overtime work of the shift that ends at 4:00 PM, which is usually extended until 7:00 PM.

The minimum services mandated for this strike contrast with the terms of other stoppages that occurred in other prison facilities, where weekly visits and clothing bag deliveries were not ensured.
