“The challenge is not only ‘theirs’, the struggle is not only ‘those’ people’s from without a salary and with few future prospects, after two years of silent layoffs, the demand is for all of us, citizens and journalists,” stated the SJ in a communiqué.
In response, the union structure urged newsrooms to pause this Thursday for five or ten minutes in solidarity with the TiN workers, emphasizing that a photo, a video, a message, or a poster can mean a lot for those fighting.
On Friday, the TiN workers, gathered in a plenary meeting, approved the continuation of the strike that has lasted for more than a week until the outstanding wages and benefits are paid, the union delegate from Visão told Lusa.
During the plenary session, “we approved the continuation of the indefinite strike by a large majority,” stated Clara Teixeira, noting that out of the 55 people present, 44 voted in favor.
The workers have been on strike since June 20, vowing to continue until they are paid the overdue wages: 75% of May’s salary, meal allowances for May and June, and vacation allowances.
Despite the strike, the magazine Caras hit the stands with a one-day delay, and Visão was released on the scheduled day, both in a reduced version.
Founded in 2017, TiN owns 16 media outlets, both in print and digital platforms.
