Unions want a minimum wage of €1,200 for construction and architecture.

Nuno Gonçalves from the Federação Portuguesa dos Sindicatos da Construção, Cerâmica e Vidro (Feviccom) announced that, in collaboration with the Sindicato dos Trabalhadores em Arquitetura (Sintarq) and the Sindicato dos Trabalhadores de Arqueologia (Starq), a proposal has been submitted for the comprehensive revision of the collective agreement for the construction and public works sector.

“Our contract has not been reviewed since 2008,” he stated, noting that the proposal places significant emphasis on financial matters.

The proposal includes “other issues for discussion with the employers’ association, notably a sector minimum wage [of 1,200 euros], the improved valuation of workers, and compensation for overtime, given the sector’s heavy reliance on overtime, as well as increased vacation time and a reduction in the daily work schedule, or weekly working hours,” he explained.

The proposal suggests reducing the working hours to 35 hours per week. The AICCOPN – Associação dos Industriais da Construção Civil e Obras Públicas now has 30 days to review the proposal.

The sector currently employs between 150,000 and 200,000 workers, he noted.
