United Airlines this year launched the first direct connection between Newark/New York Airport and Madeira International Airport, with three weekly flights from June 9 to September 24, on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
“The idea is, as the operation went well, to maintain the three flights […] and to start earlier than last year,” said Miguel Albuquerque, without specifying any concrete date.
The President of the Regional Government explained that the United Airlines operation, which ends next Wednesday, was experimental and “went very well.”
“We will now look at the new period,” he said, emphasizing that “companies are in the market to make money,” thus “as long as they have occupancy and profit, they will certainly operate.”
