Unlike the UGT, CGTP has “no invitation to any meeting”

The CGTP has not received “any invitation or call for any meeting” with the Government regarding changes to labor laws. “The only thing on the table right now” is “still the first proposal presented” by the Executive, revealed the secretary-general, Tiago Oliveira.

“The only thing CGTP has on the table at the moment—and as we have stated throughout this process—is still the first proposal presented by the Government on July 24. There is no other proposal that CGTP has access to,” he stated on Friday night on RTP Notícias’ program “Semanário.”

“There is currently no invitation or call for any meeting,” he emphasized.

When asked about how CGTP interprets this fact, Tiago Oliveira mentioned that it is not the union’s role “to interpret anything.” “Those who must take responsibility for the path they are following is the Government,” he said.

“CGTP, contrary to what the Government has tried to portray in the public opinion, is where it needs to be – of full rights – and has repeatedly said: Whenever CGTP is invited to participate, called to participate in any meeting, it will be present at that meeting. We will not waive that,” he highlighted.

For the union leader, “another matter is what the Government intends for the country’s future and the future of the labor world—and CGTP has already stated that there is a central issue in this process: the demand for the withdrawal of the labor package from the table. Fully, so there are no doubts.”

It should be noted that the Minister of Labor called UGT today for a meeting next Tuesday to continue negotiations on the Government’s draft proposal for labor law reform, the ministry informed the Lusa agency.

“Despite the general strike that interrupted the ongoing negotiation process, the Minister of Labor, Solidarity, and Social Security today called UGT for a meeting next Tuesday at 5 PM to continue negotiations,” revealed the Minister of Labor, Solidarity, and Social Security, as quoted in the ministry’s note.

The summoning comes a day after the general strike called by CGTP and UGT against the changes to labor laws proposed by the Government and currently discussed in Social Concertation.
