At 11:30 AM, 40 urgent patients (yellow) were recorded as waiting an average of 19 hours and 36 minutes for their first evaluation, according to the Ministry of Health’s platform that tracks and publishes average waiting times for hospital emergency services.
Very urgent patients (orange) faced a waiting time of three minutes, and less urgent patients (green) waited for one hour and twenty minutes.
A source from Dr. Fernando Fonseca Hospital, commonly known as Amadora-Sintra, stated that the facility is actively working to mitigate the impact of these delays as quickly as possible.
The cause of the delay was attributed not only to the absence of certain scheduled doctors but also to the nature of the cases being treated. Several emergent patients required resuscitation, which occupied service professionals for extended periods.
The hospital also urged the public to contact the National Health Service helpline, SNS24 (808242424), before visiting the emergency room to avoid unnecessary trips.
