
“As researchers cannot travel, the White House has been informed that there will likely be no inflation data, for the first time in history, depriving policymakers and markets of important information,” stated the executive in a statement.
The Department of Labor had to partially resume operations to complete the September report.
The data was expected to be released on October 15 but was only published today, indicating an acceleration of the consumer price index to 3% in September, an increase of a tenth.
The federal government shutdown has been slowing the U.S. economy, potentially affecting the Federal Reserve’s decision-making on interest rates.
The central bank will meet again on October 28 and 29.
