In a statement, Miguel Rato of the Sintra Line Users Committee explained that the actions focus solely on public transport, spanning urban, suburban, and interior areas, including a protest scheduled in Mértola, Beja district.
“It relates to the different needs felt by various populations in different locations,” said Miguel Rato, adding, “it has always been a matter of political choice over the years.”
According to the planned actions, members of the MUSP were present this morning at the Cacilhas River Terminal in Almada, distributing documents, and will conduct a similar action at 5:00 PM at the Campanhã train station in Porto.
On Tuesday, a distribution and posting of statements is scheduled at the Sintra train station between 5:00 AM and 7:00 AM. On Wednesday, document distribution will occur at the Odivelas metro station at 7:00 AM, and on Thursday, MUSP will be in Mértola (Beja) for a public meeting at 6:00 PM.
The final day of protests organized by MUSP is Friday, with members distributing documents at the D. João I metro station in Vila Nova de Gaia at 5:00 PM.
The movement emphasizes that these actions aim to “denounce the current state of degradation and lack of response from successive governments” regarding public transport mobility and service.
They further criticize the daily issues faced by users, such as the “lack of trains, buses, metro services, boats, and more recently, elevators,” attributing these problems to “lack of investment, political choice, and will” from successive governments.
