A 42-year-old man was identified last Tuesday, May 13, by the Public Security Police (PSP) on suspicion of sexual harassment in Leiria. Authorities reported that the man was caught photographing and filming the intimate parts of a woman wearing a dress in a supermarket.
In a statement released on Saturday, the PSP noted that they were called to a “commercial establishment in the city of Leiria” after the suspect was “intercepted by a security guard taking photos/recording beneath the skirt of a customer.”
Upon arrival, the security guard informed officers that he recognized the suspect “from previous occasions” and had previously “caught him following women in skirts to photograph or film their legs and intimate areas.”
The employee monitored “all the suspect’s movements” via surveillance cameras, confirming that “he was following a woman wearing a dress.”
“When the 65-year-old victim was at the counter making a payment, the suspect positioned himself behind her and suddenly crouched to place his phone under her dress while photographing/filming,” added the PSP.
After reviewing the surveillance footage, agents determined that the suspect captured the images “not with his phone, as initially suspected, but with a camera disguised as a pen.”
The PSP confiscated the suspect’s phone and concealed camera due to the nature of the sexual harassment crime. The images will undergo forensic analysis.
