“I believe what is being envisioned is a well-thought-out solution,” stated Luís Montenegro upon arriving for an informal meeting of the European Council in Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital.
The Prime Minister added that “now it is important to strengthen from a legal standpoint” the European Commission’s proposal, “so that there are no future failures or implications.”
Portugal wants to be “an active part” of this process, Luís Montenegro acknowledged.
The Prime Minister argued that the solution has the support of the Portuguese Government because it ensures no “more money” will be mobilized.
“We will leverage immobilized assets to finance Ukraine’s capacity building,” he concluded.
The Prime Minister also called for joint efforts from European Union (EU) member states to combat “a disinformation war and almost invisible penetration into the social fabric” of each country, recounting that this had already occurred in Romania’s presidential elections.
“It is a reality we have […], we all need to collaborate in the protection of our territory and infrastructures,” he commented.
