A recent analysis of POE2026 [the proposed State Budget] identifies a decrease in the Ministry of Finance’s collaboration concerning the information requested by UTAO. The report, published today by UTAO, describes this as a setback.
The entity notes that “providing timely and complete information constitutes a best practice in collaboration between institutions and is essential for the informed scrutiny of the Assembly of the Republic, becoming particularly relevant in the context of the State Budget discussions.”
It is noted that UTAO is currently without a coordinator, and the competition to strengthen the entity is expected to last up to five months, with the new coordination anticipated to begin duties in the first quarter of 2026, according to the Chairman of the Budget Committee, Rui Afonso.
