Vacancies for first-cycle teachers in the extraordinary competition doubled

The recruitment group 110 — 1st Cycle of Basic Education sees the most significant increase following the revision of vacancies in the extraordinary competition that began on October 28, as stated by the ordinance published in Diário da República on Friday.

Initially offering 107 positions, the 1st cycle now has 215 vacancies, an increase of 108.

Special Education also receives a boost, with an additional 67 vacancies across the three recruitment groups, similar to the increase for 3rd cycle and secondary English (an additional 37 positions) and Physics and Chemistry, which initially had no available positions, now offering 47 spots.

Other recruitment groups with increased vacancies due to the adjustment include 1st cycle English, Portuguese and Social Studies/History, and Portuguese and French for the 2nd cycle. For the 3rd cycle and secondary levels, these include Economics and Accounting, Biology and Geology, Electrotechnics, and Visual Arts.

Conversely, since the Ministry decided not to alter the total of 1,800 positions up for competition, all other recruitment groups will see a reduction in available positions.

The largest reduction occurs in Computer Science, which decreases from 234 vacancies to 180, followed by Portuguese (a reduction of 53) and Mathematics (a reduction of 50) for the 3rd cycle and secondary levels.

Four other recruitment groups lose at least 20 positions: Portuguese and English for the 2nd cycle, History, Geography, and Technological Education.

In addition to the vacancy ordinance review, the Government has also extended the competition deadline to 11:59 PM on November 21, one week later than the initially planned date of November 14.

Given the changes, teachers who have already submitted their applications will have the opportunity to modify their selections.
