The Vagos City Council, located in the Aveiro district, has expressed “deep sorrow” on social media over the passing of Susana Gravato, a councilor from the outgoing executive.
Susana Gravato was noted for her “dedication to public service, her closeness to people, and her commitment to the development” of the council area, according to the Municipal Council.
“Her departure leaves us poorer and saddens the entire Vagos community,” the council adds, offering heartfelt condolences and solidarity to Susana Gravato’s family, friends, and colleagues.
The outgoing municipal president, João Paulo Sousa, stated that the councilor passed away this afternoon. However, the mayor noted that details regarding the circumstances and causes of her death are not yet known.
José Santos, the commander of the Vagos Fire Department, confirmed that an alert was made via emergency number 112 at 15:08 for a victim in cardiac arrest.
“Upon our arrival, we found the victim’s husband performing [resuscitation] maneuvers and continued until the medical vehicle arrived, which declared the death at the scene,” he stated.
The Aveiro Territorial Command of the GNR has indicated that the case has been handed over to the Judicial Police (PJ) but refrained from giving further information.
The news agency Lusa attempted to obtain clarifications from the PJ in Aveiro without success.
Susana Gravato, originally from Ílhavo, lived in Gafanha da Vagueira, Vagos municipality, from the age of six.
With a law degree, Susana Gravato practiced as a lawyer, had been a member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) since 1994, and served as a councilor in the outgoing executive, with responsibilities in environment, justice, general administration, social cohesion, and health, among others.
