In a statement, the organization announced that Valter Hugo Mãe is the creator of the poster for the 49th edition of the exhibition, which will feature a presentation of the documentary ‘De Lugar Nenhum’ by director Miguel Gonçalves Mendes, exploring the creative and writing process of the book ‘A Desumanização’.
In June, Miguel Gonçalves Mendes shared that ‘De Lugar Nenhum’ is the first film completed within a series of nine feature films, which intersect in time and space, as part of the long-term project ‘O sentido da vida’, shot in various countries.
The documentary centering on Valter Hugo Mãe was filmed in Portugal, Iceland, Colombia, Brazil, and Macau.
The São Paulo Film Festival will also screen the feature film ‘O Filho de Mil Homens’, directed by Daniel Rezende and based on the novel of the same name by Valter Hugo Mãe. Its release is slated for later this year on the Netflix streaming platform.
This marks the first cinematic adaptation of a Valter Hugo Mãe work, starring Brazilian actor Rodrigo Santoro.
The São Paulo festival is set to take place from October 16 to 30, with the full program yet to be announced.
Regarding the choice of Valter Hugo Mãe to design the official poster, the festival’s director, Renata de Almeida, commented that the author “has a visual work that resonates with his writing style: It is meticulous, brimming with graphic repetitions, obsessions, and almost calligraphic gestures reminiscent of his textual cadence.”
Recently, Valter Hugo Mãe has been in Brazil engaging in several literary events, as his book ‘Educação da Tristeza’ is being released in the Brazilian market.
This week, he is being honored alongside Brazilian author Ana Maria Gonçalves at the Fliparacatu literary festival, concluding on Saturday in Paracatu, Minas Gerais.
Porto Editora noted that the writer participated in the São Paulo Literary Festival (FLISampa), MoLA – Literature and Art Showcase in Gonçalves (Minas Gerais), and the International Literary Festival of Paraty (FLIP).
On Wednesday, the Portuguese writer was received in Brasília by Brazil’s President, Inácio Lula da Silva, as revealed by the publisher.
