Portuguese Olympians Vasco Vilaça and Ricardo Batista finished fifth and sixth respectively in the men’s triathlon race at Paris2024, which was won by Britain’s Alex Yee in 1:43.33 hours.
Vilaça, who equaled João Pereira’s result at Rio2026, completed the swim (1,500 meters), bike (40 kilometers) and run (10 kilometers) segments in 1:43.56 hours, 23 seconds behind the winner, while Batista finished two seconds later.
The two Portuguese triathletes, who were 13 and 15 seconds off the bronze medal respectively, secured two more diplomas for Portugal (positions between fourth and eighth), after Nelson Oliveira was seventh in the time trial and shooter Maria Inês Barros secured one of the first eight places in the Olympic pit qualification today.
New Zealander Hayden Wilde took the silver medal in the triathlon event, six seconds behind Alex Yee, and Frenchman Léo Bergere took bronze, in 10th place.
